ClinicalTrials.gov Gets a Modernized Look for an Improved User Experience

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) is pleased to announce the launch of the modernized ClinicalTrials.gov. on an updated platform that will accommodate growth and enhance efficiency. Informed by user feedback, the modernized website includes an updated look and feel that improves functionality for searching, viewing, and downloading information about clinical trials. The new look includes simple web components that improve navigation and make important information easier to find.

Deputy Director, Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications (LHNCBC)

Update on Access to Coronavirus-related Articles in PubMed Central (PMC) COVID-19 Collection After End of Public Health Emergency

Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Library of Medicine (NLM) collaborated with publishers and scholarly societies to expand access to coronavirus-related journal articles in PubMed Central (PMC), a digital archive of peer-reviewed biomedical and life sciences literature. Through this collaboration, more than 50 publishers made more than 350,000 coronavirus-tion of coronavirus-related information immediately accessible to researchers to accelerate discoveries about COVID-19.

As the largest public funder of biomedical and behavioral research in the world, it is important that the mission statement accurately reflects NIH’s goal of turning scientific discoveries into better health for all. NLM Selects Dr. Richard H. Scheuermann as Scientific Director for the National Library of Medicine

Patricia Flatley Brennan, RN, PhD, Director of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), has named Richard H. Scheuermann, PhD, as NLM’s new Scientific Director following a nationwide search. He is expected to begin his role as NLM Scientific Director on September 10, 2023.

Staff Scientist 1 -- Data Wrangler

The Senior Research Scientist will be appointed to a position in the Senior Biomedical Research and Biomedical Product Assessment Service (SBRBPAS). Candidates for this position must have outstanding expertise in health data standards, especially FHIR and its implementation in health software applications. Clinical/clinical research expertise, such as experience specialized in processing clinical/clinical research data, is a plus. Candidates should have experience in working in a biomedical research and development environment. Outstanding communication skills and a collaborative work style are critical.

IT Specialist (SYSADMIN/APPSW)

The IT Specialist (SYSADMIN/APPSW) candidate will be expected to: • Serve as the expert intermediary between the systems administration and application functions/teams in the Applications Branch (e.g., developers, networking team, infrastructure security team, infrastructure systems team). • Coordinate projects and activities, and manage the deployment, maintenance, and upgrade process of applications developed by different development groups and teams. • Work with software application developers to architect, configure, and troubleshoot application servers and the software running on the developed applications. • Oversee and ensure systems administration, patching, networking, and provisioning support of application servers within the OCCS applications platform. • Manage approximately 400 application servers in support of the NLM mission and ensure support for applications residing on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud. • Direct and oversee provisioning and patching scripts for on-premises application servers and AWS Cloud. • Create, maintain, and administer automated testing frameworks that allow in-depth testing of User Interfaces, modules, and security of custom software applications across multiple programming languages and platforms. • Maintain the integrity, security, and availability of NOSQL databases and database-like technologies, and troubleshoot server issues, including tuning performance, isolate and fix application problems, and apply security patches. • Analyze and evaluate new systems engineering technologies, and develop and coordinate lifecycle development processes and tools to facilitate agile development methodologies. • Identify future-state objectives for the development environment, and provide guidance on best practices to maintain the development environments and support the rapid development and testing of web based solutions. • Provide analysis and guidance on program related information technology (IT) issues or problems where new analytical techniques must be developed to identify and evaluate findings. • Identify and maintain firewall rules needed to allow application communication, and create and maintain approximately 2500 firewall rules in support of application network communication.
