

The National Institutes of Health (NIH), is seeking exceptional candidates for the position of Deputy Director, Operations and Innovation (DDOI), National Library of Medicine (NLM), NIH. The DDOI, NLM shares with the Director responsibility for NLM’s research, operations, and public services and ensures that health disparities research within NLM will advance DEIA goals by reducing health inequities. NIH is the foremost agency for funding biomedical research in the U.S., with a $47.5 billion budget supporting its mission to seek fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems and to use that knowledge to enhance health, lengthen life, and reduce illness and disability. NLM is one of NIH’s 27 Institutes and Centers, with a workforce of approximately 690 Federal staff and 750 contractors and an annual budget of approximately $490 million. NLM’s organizational structure includes five major divisions and six office units, including a vibrant intramural research program and a national extramural research and training program. The DDOI, NLM brings extensive scientific achievement in biomedical informatics, operational experience in large research institutions, and expertise in innovation to guide the NLM towards excellence in service and research. Along with the Director, NLM, and co-equal with the NLM Deputy Director for Policy and External Affairs, The DDOI provides strategic leadership for NLM operations, maintains situational awareness, develops and implements strategic management models characterized by accountability and innovation. The NLM provides the world with vast biomedical literature resources and biomolecular data repositories that together serve millions of people every day.
