

WHO recommends a three-test strategy for HIV diagnosis, requiring at least three consecutive reactive rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) from different companies to confirm a positive result.1 This strategy aims to ensure diagnostic accuracy and avoid lifelong consequences of false positive diagnoses. Some facilities using the three-test strategy in Malawi had decreased rates of misdiagnosis, with minimal effects on the overall cost of HIV testing services.1
