

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) holds transformative promise for public health. For China, with its uniquely centralised public health infrastructure and access to vast, national-scale health data, AI applications can offer important pathways to improve disease prevention, health management, and resource allocation. Yet, realising this potential will require navigating challenges related to data governance, technological validation, and equity—paramount to achieving universal health coverage.
