Peripheral artery disease affects more than 12 million adults in the US. While intermittent claudication is the most common symptom, up to 20% of patients will progress to chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) within 5 years after diagnosis. Identifying factors that increase progression from claudication to CLTI and selecting patients who should undergo interventions remain important areas of research.
