

The executive order issued on January 20, 2025, by the United States, announcing its withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO), will have profound implications for the Global South.1 As the main UN agency with mandate and capacity to coordinate international health responses since 1948, WHO has served as a cornerstone of international health security.2 This decision coincides with financial retrenchment, risking reversal of two decades of progress.
