Among the neglected tropical diseases, soil transmitted helminths are still a major public health problem and their burden remains high and difficult to alleviate, even after more than 20 years of widespread preventive chemotherapy. A review published in 2023 on the global presence of Trichuris trichiura infection in humans estimated that roughly 513 million people are infected.1 The main helminth considered hard to treat is T trichiura; several treatments have been tested alone or in combination and they have all shown to have a low cure rate against trichuriasis.
